About Fujiidera:
Fujiidera, meaning “Wisteria Well Temple” was originally called “Gorinji” meaning “Great Forest Temple”, which seems a far cry from the bustling suburbs of Osaka that surround it today. However, there has always been a monzen machi here; that is, an avenue of shops and restaurants and inns that have catered for the many pilgrims traveling to the temple down through the centuries. So although it may feel a little odd to be entering this temple from shopping mall, this is actually in keeping with tradition; and notice too the wonderful quiet that immediately descends as you step through the gateway into this tranquil respite from the frenzy of the city outside.
